This stringer serves to secure and line up the upper free edges of the frames. The next step will be to start running stringers along the inside of the frames.
However, once I finished running the stringers and marking out the start and stop locations of the raised deck area I realized that I have a problem that needs to be worked out before I can proceed much further. The Full-Sized plans show to cut frames 5 through 11 with the optional angle to produce the flat topped float area between the beams, however this results in a long unsupported area for the stringers.
This probably doesn't make much sense, so maybe some pictures will help to explain.
At this point, I think the fix will require the removal of frames 5 and 11. Once those frames are matched up with the previously removed sections I'll have to mark and cut the frames to remove the raised deck angle and glue those sections back into the frames before re-attaching to the strong-back.
The "long foam/short foam" method shown in the plans. I'll need to verify that the start/stop measurements are correct before proceeding. |
Same issue on Frame 11 shown with blue tape on top. The tape on the horizontal stringer in front of this frame shows the aft edge of the raised deck. |
Another shot of Frame 11 |
Cut out pieces of frames that will need to be reinserted before re-cutting and gluing. |
